Acts 28: Paul's final journey

Acts 28 records the story of Paul's arrival in Rome and the continuation of his ministry. This chapter is divided into three parts and describes Paul's journey and activities in Rome.

1. Events on the Island of Malta (28:1-10)

Paul and his group arrive on the island of Malta after their ship is shipwrecked.

  • Hospitality on the Maltese Islands : The Maltese people welcome the shipwrecked by treating them very kindly and lighting a fire for them.
  • Serpent Incident : While Paul was gathering wood, his hand was bitten by a snake. But he suffers no harm. The residents who saw this thought that Paul was a god.
  • Healing : Paul heals the father of Publius, the island's chief. After his illness is cured, other people on the island also come to Paul and are healed.
  • Preparation for departure : Paul and his group stay on the island for three months, during which time the Maltese people provide them with their needs.

2. Journey to Rome (28:11-15)

After the winter is over, Paul and his companions set sail again, heading for Rome.

  • Alexandrian Ship : Paul and his party leave Malta and arrive at Syracuse, Legion, and Photiol on the Alexandrian Ship.
  • Christian welcome : After arriving in Potiol, they are welcomed by their Christian brothers in Rome. After spending a week with them, Paul heads to Rome.
  • Arrival in Rome : Paul arrives in Rome and is warmly welcomed by the believers there.

3. Ministry in Rome (28:16-31)

After arriving in Rome, Paul continues his ministry.

  • House Arrest : Paul is placed under house arrest in Rome, where he can meet people freely.
  • Meeting with the Jews : Paul invites Jewish leaders in Rome to speak with them. He explains that he did not go against Jewish customs or the customs of his ancestors.
  • Kingdom of God and Jesus Christ : Paul explains Jesus Christ and spreads the kingdom of God through the Old Testament. Some Jews believed him, but others did not.
  • Quoting Isaiah's prophecy : Paul quotes Isaiah's prophecy regarding the Jews' response, rebuking them for their stubbornness.
  • Turning to the Gentiles : Paul proclaims that God's salvation has been sent to the Gentiles as well.
  • Free Ministry : Citing Isaiah's prophecy, Paul declares that God's salvation has been given to the Gentiles as well. Paul then spends two years under house arrest, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about Jesus Christ to all who visit.
